Viceroys Cyclists Smash their Races too!

Viceroys new breed of ‘Super Cyclists’ race at weekends too – ditching the swimming and the running for pure speed, we tracked down Kevin Argent to find out  a little more about what cycle racing involves… and much is still a mystery. Although you may have asked, “What distance do you ride Kevin?” or, “How far was your race?” this remains an unknown as he just tells us about the adrenaline rushes and good bits from his weekend race at the Hillingdon/ Surrey closed course summer championships :kevinargent

‘After last week’s reckless riding from other racers I wanted to make sure I was either in the break away or at least in the very front come the last 300 meters! So this week I stayed in the middle to front of the peloton for most of the hour only dropping back to talk to the other guys from Nunns London and talk “tactics” . When the hour came round I was feeling fresh and fast but found that I lost touch with the lead group so the best I could hope for was 5th? With the 5 lap board out it was all to play for and I sat inside the top 15 and played safe.

Keeping out of trouble and the wind I sat with my adopted teammates and left them to do some work…… Then one by one they dropped out! Feeling under pressure I had to make a quick decision and chose to jump to the front and hope for the best! With a lap to go and no mates and no water I held on to the front 3 in the group and with 200 meters to go I found my “kick” in the sprint and pushed from about 9th to 6th!

Punching the air (Like a gentlemen not a thug) I was happy with that! I now have 2 weeks off racing till the October Races start it’s a 4 round championship run over 3 Saturdays and 1 Sunday (hopefully not the same Sunday of the Curran Canter!) and then December 7th the Surrey Winter Champs start! I’m aiming for top 10 again this winter! ‘

Great racing Kevin.

About Kate Wallace

I've always been involved with sport of some description, particularly adrenaline sports (skiing, boarding, kite-surfing, bungi jumps, parachute jumps, mountain biking) and endurance events (7 marathons, lots of halfs, Caledonian Challenge, London to Brighton bike ride, Moonwalk, played/coached rugby), but I'm relatively new to triathlon as it's actually taken the place of other sports after a couple of bad accidents! Although looking at the biographies of all you other Viceroys I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that all I've done are a few team traitahlons (running or cycling leg) and a couple of super sprints and sprints on my own, I'm hoping that being a Viceroy might persuade me that swimming in open water over 400m is actually possible.
